Abstract:Needling from Tiaokou(ST38) through to Chengshan(BL57) to relieve shoulder pain,as a well-known example of discoveries in modern acupuncture, has a significant influence on the acupuncture textbook and acupuncture clinics.Conclusive evidence we found newly in this paper lead to the conclusion that the empirical use of this acupuncture point is wrong somehow used in clinics during the past half a century. This demonstrates the complexity of acupuncture clinical trial design including research methodology challenges.Besides,we also point out the main problems on the evaluation and design of acupuncture clinical trials.
